Utaandon 歌行燈: my choice on crowded Saturday night

I spent last Saturday shopping with my friend at Central World. After a long walk and all the chit-chat, it was 8 p.m. already and we’re tired and starving! Every Saturday, especially at night, is like a war. Everywhere is packed and crowded. Because of that, we didn’t want to go eating somewhere else. Eating at department store is the best solution for people who don’t want to with for a long queue and have plenty of restaurant to pick on in Saturday night. So, two girls (who at that time ready to finish a whole cow!) decided to eat at our favorite restaurant in Isetan, Utaandon.

Utaandon is a small lovely traditional Japanese restaurant. It has two branches: one at Central world and another at Emporium. This restaurant is famous for their udon noodles and soba noodles.

Udon noodle (うどん) is a Japanese thick wheat-flour noodle, usually serves as a hot noodle soup. Soba noodle (そば) is a Japanese buckwheat noodle. Noodle shape is long and thin, made from buckwheat flour. It usually serves as chilled noodle, dipped with sauce or in a hot soup.

The udon noodles and soba noodles are made daily to keep the taste fresh and delicious in everyday. Their soup is also remarkable. It is called as dashi (だし) in Japanese. It made from dries fish boiled with kombu.

I ordered my favorite menu “Katsuni Udon”, crispy pork dipped with egg and boiled in hot dashi noodle soup. The udon noodles were soft and fresh, crispy pork and mouth-watering soup was a good combination. It was quite cold that day so ate hot tasty noodles was such a heaven :’) My friend decided to try this month promotion menu “Nabeyaki Udon” set, hot udon noodles boiled with meat and vegetables and served in a medal pot. Also served with Japanese salad and rice topped with cooked baby sardine. I tried it for a bit. The taste of the soup was sweeter than mine. I think it because of the vegetables and the meat. The noodles were exactly like mine, soft and delicious. This menu would be perfect for people who love healthy food and love to eat in a big amount. The noodles, rice and salad would make you felt so stuffed till the next morning.

Apart from two dished I just talked about. I have a few recommended menus. Gyudon (牛丼) is a rice dish topped with beef and onion cooked with sweet sauce and lastly topped with a raw egg. This is a very popular menu and is also my most favorite menu. Sweet and soft beef with steamed rice is irresistible. Also, if you don’t want to eat late, Utaandon has a lunch set which is very worth the price. My recommended set would be “Tonkatsu Set”, crispy pork served with steamed rice plus a small bowl of hot udon noodles soup as a side dish and “Gyudon Set”, sweet beef with steamed rice and a small bowl of hot udon noodles soup. I think these two set are the most popular and I highly recommended you guys to try it. Let’s go eat out together and share comment. Anyone who has already been to the restaurant, please, feel free to comment :’))

Outside nightclubs

Bangkok at night has so much more than clubbing. When there's someone out there keep an eye on your move, you'll look for the alternatives. I recently had bad experiences about nightclub so this post will present the solutions, other ways of having great times at night in Bangkok.

The Bangkok Guitar Fiesta 2012

For another year that greatest guitar artists of the world come across to the festival. The Bangkok Guitar Fiesta is a famous premier annual guitar event of Thailand. In order to inspire Thai audience, the festival provides the experts for both concerts and workshops. With world class exclusive education, this event will help improve Thai music as well as spur the inspiration of young artists. However, for those who prefer to observe, there are 4 live performances organized for you. This year performances included: Vitaly Makukin from Ukraine, with his amazing tapping technique; Tango in Guitar by Gorosito, Cataldi and de la Vega Trio from Argentina; Frank Bungarten, Germany’s foremost Guitarist, who beautifully plays Bach music through his instrument and Spain’s Contemporary Flamenco Duo 12 Cuerdas. They are all well-known world class guitar gurus. This 3 days event is held at Thai Cultural Center, Small Hall, Bangkok. The price of the concert ticket comes in 2 rates: 900 and 1500 Bath/performance but for workshops, 900 Bath/workshop. You can book the tickets online from Thaiticketmajor where you’ll also find the workshop and concert schedule.

The Fat Festival 2012

Click to see the actual size of the picture to read to full details.

Young Thais most favorite festival is on the way. It is time for Fat Fest. The fest has been continuously held by Fat Radio since forever. I remember that I have grown up with the heard of this event. The fresh, young and independent are the concept of this legendary. The place is for teenagers and young people to release their creativities, energies and powers of new generation. The fest normally has concerts of indie bands, cool hand-made stuff selling and a theater for free short film screenings. You can update teen ideas and perspectives like how they response to current situations or how much they care for the other issues besides theirs. The ticket for 2 day entry is 500 Bath where you can enjoy the event from 4pm-10pm, quite reasonable for teenagers, I say. Book the ticket online through Thaiticketmajor as well. Be young for 2 days, this 11-12 Feb.

There are movies, short films or art gallery opening that we can go. Feed our minds with some imaginations or visions that we have never heard of. People are looking for having fun in Bangkok as they saw from a movie but you will see that the city is more than just Silom, Soi Cow boy or Khao San Road. It is full of cultures, the culture that develops from time to time by native Thais and culture that is combined with foreign factors. These 2 fests are just parts of long list up-coming events, still more to come. Let’s take this opportunity to see what the city is rich of.

Nightlife @ Chinatown

Bangkok’s most outstanding district

Are you Thai-Chinese guys? Well, if you are, I am sure you properly know about Chinatown! Anyway, never mind if you are not those guys or you don’t even know what Chinatown is, I will take you there throughout my blog. Let’ see Chinatown during the night!

Chinatown???

Chinatown is situated in one of the oldest areas of Bangkok which Chinese traders were settled in this district in the early 1780's. Chinatown is an easy place to explore on foot. The other name of Chinatown is Yaowarat, the name of the main road, which Thais commonly call. According to the Feng-Shui principle, the shape of Yaowarat Road is curve like the dragon's curvy body. making it an ideal location for business.

Getting There: Taking the subway to Hua Lampong station. From there, it is a short walk to Chinatown.

Visitors can go to Chinatown in a day or a night time, but you will see a little bit different.

Gold shop

Chinatown is called the “Golden Road” in the day time. There are numerous gold shops along Yaowarat Road and it is known that this is the best area, where to have the best gold deals in Bangkok. Additionally, there are several wholesale shops close by Chinatown that you can find and grab some products, such as textiles, garments, souvenirs, second-hand spare parts of electronic devices, electric goods, antiques and accessories.

During the night, if you're looking for clubs or pubs in Chinatown, you are completely in the wrong way. Chinatown is the amazing world apart from everything else in Bangkok. It is the paradise of gourmets and food lovers. The only one activity that makes Chinatown popular is dining. The dinner on a side of the street among the crowd under the moonlight described here. China is here!

Each night, there is a variety of people gathered at Chinatown. Both sides of the road are flanked with a lot of Chinese restaurants and food vendors in the night time. As you walk along the pavement in Bangkok’s Chinatown, you will hear many noises from the crowd and hawkers. The thing you can notice in Chinatown is the happiness that shines in the faces of the crowd around their tables. What's so amazing!

Most restaurants have their specialty, maybe seafood or a regional food. The mouth-watering selection of food is enormous which it is impossible to have all in one night. Most dishes are costly and some others are on average. Local delicacies include Dim Sum, steamed Chinese mullet, noodles, Peking duck, and shark fin soup.Other appetizers are usually sold by street vendors, such as bird's nest soup, pork skewer and toasted chestnut.

Personally, a taste of Chinese food at Chinatown is flavorsome, taste, and good in color. Although it is so expensive, it is worth the price. Compared to Thai food, though, it is less spicy, but exquisite.  Don’t believe me if you have never tasted.  A picture is worth a thousand words.

Engrossing nightlife experience! Enjoy the night!

China town part II

Now let me tell you more about China town !
If we’re talking about the China town at night , one outstanding thing about it actually has to do with food. Yes, food!
Let’s talk about when is the best time to go. If you want to go eat out and try some stand food, I would suggest you to go after 7PM. Stand food in China town is very famous, it’s not like other stand food. In China town there are so many well-known shops that have been open over the century. For me personally, I like Kuy-jab so much. It has always been full of people and you should really try some. Along the road, you will not only see food, but you can also see they sell fruit as well that always tastes delicious and it tastes so original, totally diffirent from the others you have eaten, I promise. Apart from foods, you can also see the fruit stands along the road. For example, Dragon fruit, its everywhere and it tastes just amazing!
But if you want something more luxurious, you can go for the proper restaurants, they have a lots, and you usually can go during the day time as well (I would suggest after the afternoon is perfect!)

They would serve you amazing high class Chinese food.
The way they decorate is pretty much Chinese style. Huge Chinese alphabet, red lamp in Chinese style. They usually have the examples of their food in front of the retuarant where you can see what they have before you decide to go in.
In China town, there’s no particular food soi or grocery store soi, they’re pretty much mixed.

The most popular time in China town I would say is Chinese new year. It’s so magnificent there, people dressed with Chinese costume, and they basically always have spectacular acrobatic dragon dances in front of the temple. It is just absolutely fantastic!

Oh before we leave, one thing I really personally like from china town is chestnut. I think the way they make it is so fresh and it smells really nice! My parents always got me to buy it for them everytime I go there. So this is the picture of how they made the chestnut and what it looks like.
The price for one box is approximately 120 B.

I think this is it for our review for this week about China town, so please, if you have time, and feel like you want your night to be a little diffirent and are hungry for some good food, China town is your alternative now.
Thanks so much everyone for reading our blog. Feel free to leave comments or suggest anything you like.
Hope everyone have a fantastic weekend. Ciao!

Late Night Market @ Siam District

Bangkok’s most popular night open air shopping

You probably have several ideals for where to go shopping in Bangkok during daylight hours. How about at night? When the night comes, do you have any clue?

The first thing you must know before going to this place is you will not find it if there is sunlight. You have to go there at night only! It is situated in the heart of Bangkok’s shopping district, along the pathways of Rama I Road opposite to Siam Center and Siam Paragon.

The icon points out where the market is located
To get to Siam Square: Take the BTS and get off at Siam station
Do not expect this late night market at Siam district to be an air-conditioned mall or store. It is just an outdoor night market which is well known to teenagers and working people. Due to its good location and environment, there is always so crowded.

Siam’s late night market opens everyday from 8pm - 11pm.  Each night, you can see a variety of people gather to shopping a variety of fashionable things. There are many individual shops which are full of quality products to see and grab some of them.
Most shops sell various styles and types of clothing. A few other shops offer some shoes, bags and accessories. Compared to other outdoor markets, though, the prices are on average which you can pay without a doubt. It takes a little time to walk from the first shop to the last one, but I bet that you will walk more than one round again and again.

It would be a good idea for a single guy to find someone you like and then flirt. Just standing over there for an hour, you can see countless good looking people out there.

When you have nothing to do before going to a late night dating or partying, going there will be one of good ways to kill time. Moreover, if you need a drink after shopping, there are many pubs located near this cool market.
Have you ever been there?
The great place for a great long night with a great deal of joy
Fascinating nightlife experience Enjoy the night !!
